Workers rescued after falling into chocolate bar at Mars Wrigley factory | US news

Two people were rescued after falling into a partially filled chocolate tank while performing maintenance work on a candy factory in Pennsylvania.

The sticky situation unfolded on Thursday at the Mars Wrigley facility in Elizabethtown.

The problem started around 2 pm, the county governor said. Officials did not say how the people were trapped in the chocolate tub.

PennLive.com reported that the chocolate in the tank was about waist high, and that the workers could not get out on their own. Emergency personnel managed to free the couple by cutting a hole in the bottom of the tank, officials said.

The local TV station WHTM said that the first person was picked up at 15.10 and the second 15 minutes later. The two people work for an external construction company, officials said, and it is not clear how they fell into the tank.

It was not clear if any of the people were injured, but they were taken to hospital for evaluation. Their names and further details of their relationship were not released.

The Federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the incident. An Osha official declined to comment on the case, citing the ongoing investigation.
