With generators slated to retire, Becker looks to diversify the economy

Xcel Energy aims to eliminate all its carbon emissions from electric power by 2050.

The movement has led Becker to imagine a future without fossil fuels. Becker officials want to bring in new businesses so that the community can thrive without the plant's coal units.

Xcel Energy has customers in eight states, including Minnesota, Wisconsin, South Dakota and North Dakota.
