For several months, American parents and caregivers have been struggling with declining supplies of infant formula. But in recent weeks, the products have been particularly difficult to find, which has forced some retailers to limit purchases while the Food and Drug Administration struggles to respond to the crisis.
About 1 in 4 parents exclusively breastfeed their children up to 6 months of age, according to the National Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which means that the vast majority of parents and caregivers are at least partially addicted to formula.
