Sir Jonathan Ive, or Jony Ive who absolutely calls him, leaves Apple, he is the company's Chief Design Oficer, and he has worked with, and watched, the company since 1990.

His departure, ] announced on Thursday & nbsp; and come into effect at the end of the year, is very big news. After all, you can mention the chief designer at Samsung, Huawei, Nokia or another technology company? I can hardly mention anyone and I've interviewed quite a few. They pitched to me by company XYZ as "he is XYZ's Jony Ive." [19659004] It's not to say that there are no exceptional designers at other companies, with a detailed understanding of what makes hardware and software look good, works well, and feels intuitive.

It's just that Jony Ive is the guy, the standout, the real deal, you know? He was the guy who worked in lock with Apple's late CEO Steve Jobs and who with us gave us the iMac, iPhone, iPod and iPad. Since Job Job's death in 2011, the products included many subsequent iPhones, MacBooks and iPads, not to mention Apple Watch.

His silent manifesto for a particular form of pure design is difficult to overstate, delivering product by product that just breathed away with its elegant simplicity and unpleasant attention to detail.

Almost all smartphones and tablets since 2007 have been influenced by Ive, previously I interviewed Ive, and he is deeply impressive. When you meet him, you are no doubt that his perfectly chosen words come from a deeply thought-out mind. He is an avid listener, and his comments, far from the media educated execs of most companies, seem to come from the heart, from principles that have governed his designs for years.

So, Jony Ive leaving Apple must be a body

In fact, almost certainly not, I want to say.

To begin with, his new company, with the welcoming name LoveFrom, will have Apple as "one of its primary customers", so there will be significant input from Ive in the future. Secondly, it is noticeable that no replacement has been announced, suggesting that in some ways I will continue to do the same job, only from another address.

Wait, you say, Apple will never cite something as important as design to an outsider. You are right. Apart from this, Jony is Ive, if anyone outside the company is going to trust it, he is.

And thirdly, read the runes of what was said in Apple's press release and announce Ive's resignation.

Jony is a unique figure in the design world, and his role in Apple's awakening cannot be overstated from the 1998 groundbreaking iMac for iPhone & nbsp; and Apple Park's outstanding ambition, where he recently put so much energy and care, says Tim Cook, Apple's CEO. "Apple will continue to benefit from Jony's talents by working directly with him on exclusive projects, and through the ongoing work of the brilliant and passionate design team he has built. After so many years working closely, I'm happy For our relationship to continue to evolve and I look forward to working with Jony for a long time into the future. "

Note that Apple Park is focusing on Ive's recent attention. In other words, the latest iPhones, watches and iPads may have been largely designed by his "brilliant and passionate design team" with Ive overseeing.

The process, a nourishing and creative ability, is crucial to how I work, so that you can bet that the team is truly brilliant and passionate.

Jony Ive speaks at Cambridge Union.

Ive been awarded the Stephen Hawking community in Cambridge. His acceptance speech was electric and undervalued at the same moment. He spoke convincingly about the need to create a safe room where ideas could emerge.

I remain totally awe, completely enchanted by the creative process. I love the unpredictability and I love the surprise. The whole process is fabulously scary and so uncertain. But I love it on Monday, it's nothing. There is no idea that there is no conversation, the room is quiet, it is certainly not a drawing. Prototypes are the way in the future. On Monday there is nothing but on Wednesday it is. No matter how partial, how preliminary. Now the problem is: what Wednesday?

You can read more of this speech here where he also talks about how the iPhone hardly happened because sometimes the team came close to giving up. It is a fascinating insight into the creative process.

In Cook and Apple CEO Tim Cook has a relaxed but effective relationship and I'm sure this will continue.

I also think that changing the situation can only make for a refreshing, re-energizing of both Apple and Ive, but passionately you are, finding originality and novelty after three decades can only be a challenge.

The same announcement from Apple says

Design Team Managers Evans Hankey, Vice President of Industrial Design and Alan Dye, Vice President of Human Interface Design, will report to Jeff Williams, Apple's Chief Executive. Both Dye and Hankey have played important leadership roles in Apple's design team for many years. Williams has been leading the development of Apple Watch since its inception, and will spend more time working on the design team in their studio.

I've interviewed Williams and he certainly has a detailed detail of all aspects of Apple Watch and a similar passionate approach to the company in general. He may not be a designer, but he knows that the guys who are and to get them to report to him are not, as some have seen, a downgrade of the importance of design for the company. Seriously can you imagine an Apple who didn't put design on top of its priority list?

I give the last word to Ive, also from the Apple announcement.

After nearly 30 years and countless projects, I am most proud of the enduring work we have done to create a design team, process and culture at & nbsp; Apple without peer. Today, it is stronger, more vibrant and more talented than ever in Apple's story, "says Ive." The team will & nbsp; certainly thrive under the good leadership of Evans, Alan and Jeff, who have been among my closest partners. the utmost & nbsp; trust in my designer colleagues at Apple, who are my closest friends, and I look forward to working with them for many years to come. "

This is not a bitter divorce, more an evolution of one relationship. Both parties believe I will continue to thrive.
