Warehouse plan can bring 1,000 jobs to Tennessee city

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – Executives in a Tennessee city expect at least 1,000 jobs to be created based on a recently submitted inventory plan called "Project Iris."

News site reports Atlanta- Seefried Industrial Properties-based development company has submitted a request for re-regulation to Memphis and the Shelby County Board of Adjustment. The company has developed facilities for Amazon, Best Buy and Mercedes-Benz lately. The board plans to review the application at its meeting on September 25.

Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland tweeted that the facility will bring "new life" to the city.

The plan uses the code "AR SORT FC." Amazon has shortened its Amazon Robotics Division "AR." The code may be an abbreviation for "Amazon Robotics Sortable Fulfillment Center."

Amazon has not said whether it plans to build a facility in Memphis.
