Walmart stops its first car seat replacement ever because of what the retailer described as "overwhelming response."
"Because of the overwhelming response from our customers, we quickly reach capacity for this program," Walmart said in a statement to USA Today. "In less than a week, we estimate we will collect nearly 1 million car seats – or equivalent to diverting over 200 million plastic bottles from landfills.
"We are delighted to have worked with TerraCycle and the participation of so many customers and affiliates. Through recycling the car seat, we will help families keep their children safe and help reduce plastic waste from landfills. We look forward to host future events that support the needs of parents and families. "
The program, originally designed to end Sept. 21
Walmart has not announced any future recovery program dates.
