The priming market has become extremely competitive since 40 of the market leader Invisalign's patents expired in October 201[ads1]7. SmileDirectClub and a slew of other startup as Candid Co. is jockeying to overcome the firing line market, appealing consumers with flashy marketing and cheaper treatments.
SmileDirectClub already sold its kit within retailers, including CVS and Macy, but the pilot program could increase exposure.
Candid Co. already has nine own stores in cities, including New York, Los Angeles and Boston. While customers can complete everything they need via Candidate's website to receive a set of adjustments, someone still prefers to see a specialist in person, CEO Nick Greenfield said. There are values in companies like Candid and SmileDirectClub that have brick and mortar to reach customers who may not be convinced to buy otherwise.
SmileDirectClub opens its 200th position Wednesday in Beverly Hills.
