Waffle House has “secret” plate marking system for tracking orders: report

You’ve probably heard that some restaurant chains have secret menus or diner lingo when you order, but have you heard of ‘plate labeling’?
It’s a special process that has been unveiled at Waffle House restaurants. – and it helps grill operators keep track of your orders, according to Nexstar.
Basically, Waffle House employees use a type of shorthand that involves plates, spice packs, utensils and snacks, according to the report.

The system became aware of TikTok by one of the restaurant’s chefs, and evoked equal parts awe and complete confusion from the viewers. But for Waffle House’s longtime grill operators, the branding system is apparently a different nature.

“Yes, it really is one thing, and although it’s a secret like the Coca-Cola recipe, we’re hiding it from the eye,” said Njeri Boss, director of PR for Waffle House, in a statement shared with Nexstar.

Waffle House grill operators are asked to strategically place spices or ingredients (jelly packets, butter packets, pieces of grated potato, etc.) on each plate as the order is named. The location indicates what has been ordered and how it is to be cooked.

For example, a jelly packet placed vertically at the bottom of a plate means that the customer wants scrambled eggs. The same package, placed on top of the plate, means that the eggs should be fried with the sun side up.
Depending on the location of a jelly packet on top of a mustard packet, this means that the customer wants an extra egg or that the customer wants an omelette with ham.

The Thje system may sound complicated, but Boss claims “it’s pretty easy to learn”, according to Nexstar.
However, some TikTok users expressed some doubts.
