Verizon releases tools to block robo calls

LANSING, Mich. (CNN / WILX) – Wednesday, March 26, 2019

Robo callers will soon ask: "Can you hear me now?"

The largest wireless provider in the country released a new tool to filter out the annoying automated calls.

The free service displays a scam alert on a smartphone's screen to alert customers if calls are likely to come from a fraudulent source. Some calls will be blocked and not received by the phone at all.

Verizon officials say more than 300 million spam and robo call numbers have been collected so far – but robo-call services often use fake numbers, so the list is constantly growing.

Landline telephones will also have access to protection service through caller ID.

Verizon says the feature flagged nearly 1[ads1] billion scams and robo calls since its launch last year. —–

Getting rid of these annoying robokalls should almost be easier if you are a Verizon customer.

According to Forbes, the telephone company will quickly offer free blocking tools for its customers.

Verizon already offers a blocking of the app that costs $ 2.99 a month, but a free version is expected within the month.

Verizon is tapping into new technologies that analyze incoming calls and visually alert consumers to fake calls on their smartphones.

Since last year, Verizon has identified nearly 300 million numbers related to spam and robo calls.

More details about the service are expected.
