The state of California unveiled a set of new rules governing their hospitality industry this week; ban on the use of small, disposable bottles, often distributed to guests at nationwide chains and hotels.

"California Prime Minister Gavin Newsom (D) announced Wednesday that he signed into law prohibiting hotels from distributing small plastic bottles to guests filled with personal products like shampoo, conditioner or soap," reports The Hill.

The new The rules come into force on January 1, 2023, and apply to hotels with more than 50 rooms or suites, the regulation will apply to all hotels in 2024.

“Thank you Governor @GavinNewsom for signing # ab1162 to ban disposable toiletry bottles in the hotel industry! This bill moves us one step closer to phasing out disposable plastic in our community.
