- Baltimore Orioles have made several offers to Yasiel Puig
- Puig has no hurry to sign up for the 2020-21 MLB season
- The 29-year-old can be a good addition to the undermined Baltimore Orioles Yasiel Puig is the biggest name available in the Major League Baseball (MLB) free agent market, and it looks like one team is trying to pull some strings. The Baltimore Orioles have been in contact with the 29-year-old right fielder, offering at least one contract offer to the former All-Star.
Mark Feinsand of MLB.com tweeted as per his sources, the Orioles are trying to pull something off to get Puig to his side.
MLB teams failed to get started in recent months due to the league's transaction freeze tied to the COVID-1
Aside from the Orioles, the San Francisco Giants were also linked to a possible deal with Puig. According to The Athletic the Giants were expected to be among the teams that would try to lure the Cuban baseball player to their fold. Surprisingly, Baltimore has taken the lead for Puig's services.
The Orioles don't waste their time trying to fill holes in the watch list. They need a starting fielder, with Trey Mancini likely not available this season. The 28-year-old announced through The Players Tribune in April that he would undergo cell poisoning after being diagnosed with stage 3 cancer
Before linking to the Giants and Orioles, the team associated with the Cuban baseball player was the Miami Marlins. The interest never became official, although it is believed that the Marlins made an offer to Puig. The estimated offer is expected to be close to $ 10 million.
At that time, Puig also confirmed to the El Nuevo Herald that several teams offered him a deal apart from the Marlins. He added that Miami was among the first teams to make an offer, though he admits he had command of a higher price tag.
Before the Orioles' hunt, Puig seemed ready to set out for the 2020-21 MLB season. He is aware that things are not looking good, especially with the increasing number of cases of COVID-19.
But with more offers on the table, the chances of seeing Puig play this season look brighter.
