With the changing seasons, holiday decorations and cheerful music flowing from seemingly every shop, one thing is clear – the end of the year is upon us, and 2020 is not far away.
can be a great time to remember, reflect on the past 12 months and find areas to improve on the new year.
Improvement does not necessarily mean that something is wrong at first; but everyone can improve continuously.
Focusing on ways to improve yourself will lead to improvements on the job and help you achieve more over the coming year.
Here are some ways you can continue to improve as 2020 arrives: [1
Reading is a great way to learn new things and relax.
Reading is a calming activity that helps you to unwind, meditate, and gain knowledge you may not have had before. Therefore, reading is probably the easiest way to continue improving in the new year.
Of course, it's important to read things that will benefit you at work; read books to help you learn about your job, your industry, and best practices for doing better work in 2020.
Some of the best entrepreneurs in the world – such as Warren Buffett and Bill Gates – are insatiable readers.
However, you will also take time to read for joy.
These benefits will improve your personal life and also increase productivity and ensure that you are always improving at work.
2. Listen to podcasts related to your industry
Reading has a close relative of people on the go – podcast.
Podcasts have grown in popularity significantly in recent years, and now there are thousands of podcasts, just about anything you can imagine.
I guarantee there are many podcasts to choose from in your industry.
Podcast is a great way to learn about industry news, events and best practices.
They are a great way to refine your skills and learn new ones.
They are also a great way to gain new perspectives from other industry people or people who are passionate about the subject.
Check out some podcasts related to your industry and use them to continue to improve (on the go) in the new year.
3. Take a course to improve your skills
What better way to improve yourself than to learn actively?
Even though you have graduated and earned a degree, there is nothing wrong with continuing to improve your skills by taking courses.
Communities often offer courses for adults in a variety of subjects, from cooking classes to high-level computer software.
You can also enroll in classes at a local college, consider obtaining a diploma or, if you haven't already, even consider a professional degree.
Learning is the best way to improve your skills and become a better professional industry, and taking a course is like a fast track to gaining new skills.
4. Practice An Old Passion to Increase Your Creativity Sometimes we forget when we are busy with work, our personal lives – and our personal selves.
But we all have hobbies and passions, and it's best not to let them be put on the back burner.
Having something for yourself in your spare time to pay attention to reduces stress levels and takes you away from work.
And to improve on the job, we sometimes need to get our minds off the job.
Having the passions and hobbies that you practice regularly will also help boost your creativity that improves your work as it gives you a fresh perspective to look at projects and problems as they arise.
5. Get Feedback and Criticism
A great way to find ways to improve is by asking for criticism and feedback from those who can provide it.
Give those around you the opportunity to give feedback on your working style, your management style, what you may want to improve as the year goes on.
This allows everyone to reflect and evaluate how they can improve.
Working to become a better business owner, boss, supervisor or employee is a great way to continue to improve in the new year – it only requires a little help from others.
6. Working towards a goal
Every year, people make New Year's resolutions; and while many people do not go along with it, it is not a bad practice to get into.
Especially for business.
If you come up with some personal and professional goals at the beginning of the new year, it will give you a reason to keep getting better as the year goes on.
Goals require improvement to be met.
You cannot set a goal at the beginning of the year, do and do not change anything, and still fulfill that goal by the end of it.
Set high goals to push yourself; push yourself personally and push yourself to expand your business.
My goal for the new year is for MobileMonkey to be internationally recognized by marketers as the world's best integrated chat, SMS and Facebook Messenger chatbot platform for marketing and customer service.
7. Be Open to Change
There is no possible way to improve yourself at home or at work without being open to change.
Improvement gives change; one cannot improve and stay exactly the same.
In the new year, consider implementing ways that changes can be available and ongoing in the workplace.
Small and large corporate meetings that give employees the opportunity to ask questions and make suggestions without fear are a great first step toward implementing an ever-better working life.
The people around you probably have their own thoughts, feelings and suggestions on how things are at the moment.
If you are looking to get better in the new year, it is important to reach out to these people and hear their opinions.
8. Get Around the Community
What better way to improve yourself than to work to understand and help others?
Exploring your community, both for leisure and for learning and helping, is a great way to improve your knowledge and skills in the new year.
Working in a business in a community you don't know or understand can be tough.
Start by just exploring the community.
Learn the restaurants, shops, entertainment; this benefits you personally, and it also benefits your business, since you will be able to know local businesses that you can partner with in the future for a variety of reasons.
Then start finding ways to help the community as well.
Volunteering, Donation, etc.: These are all great ways to help your community as you build connections and improve yourself along the way.
The more you know your community, the more your community will know you and your business; which is great for the business in the long run.
Improve Yourself to Improve Your Work
Improvement comes in steps.
You cannot improve your work without improving yourself.
While a number of these suggestions are to help you make improvements in your work life, several are to help you make improvements in your personal life.
Learning new things, looking at your creativity, helping others, and setting goals are good ways to set yourself up for success in the new year. You want to improve yourself, which will lead to improvements at work, so you can be the best you – in and out of the office – that you can be.
