Universal Plaza opens in downtown Tigard

There is a new outdoor meeting room in Tigard.

Universal Plaza, hailed as “a place for everyone” in downtown Tigard “that celebrates our shared humanity and our one shared planet,” was unveiled to the public Saturday morning with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, music, food trucks, vendors and other amenities which was welcomed. the hundreds who came to see the new room.

Completion of the first phase of the plaza includes oversized porch swings that welcome guests as they arrive, two green spaces, Tigard̵[ads1]7;s first splash pad, a bike and pedestrian path and boardwalk overlooking Fanno Creek, two food trucks – Harvest Moon Experience and West Coast Torta Selskap — a vending and storage shelter and a four-stall bathroom with hand-washing station.

The second phase of the public square, to be built at a later date, will add a canopy to provide shelter from rain and sun, as well as a common room.

The space will host community events, the Tigard Farmers Market, year-round food trucks and more.
