DES MOINES, Iowa (KWWL) – The Department of Human Services today received UnitedHealthcare leaving the IA Health Link program over the next few months.
Currently, members can continue to see their current vendors. Members of IA Health Link can choose coverage from Amerigroup of Iowa or Iowa Total Care.
Here is a complete statement from Gov. Kim Reynolds today:
"Today, I concluded negotiations between the state of Iowa and UnitedHealthcare because of terms that I thought were unreasonable and unsustainable.
" From the day I was sworn in as governor, I have been committed To ensure a sustainable, successful care program that protects patients, supports providers and keeps insurance companies accountable.
"We have continued to work in good faith with the legislator to make improvements to the managed care system, including a significant increase in funding over the past year.
" Unfortunately, UnitedHealthcare continued to make further demands I found to be unacceptable, including a provision that would remove payroll remuneration that would hold them accountable.
"I want to assure Iowans that the state will work closely with UnitedHealthcare over the next few months to minimize disruption and ensure a smooth transition to the other two managed care companies."
