United Airlines plans to add larger airbags to most of its aircraft in an effort to improve boarding and take a great deal of stress out of travel.

On Friday, the airline said rubbish bins can accommodate one bag per passenger on domestic flights. On a 179-seat Boeing 737-900, which equates to an extra 65 bags.

Toby Enqvist, United's senior director and customer manager, showed a photo of one of the larger trash cans with six larger roll bags comfortably hidden inside the airline's media day in Chicago Friday.

"This is like my Mona Lisa, & # 39; & # 39; he said.

Enqvist said the goal is to end the need to check bags at the gate, a process that slows boarding and throws customers who then have to go to luggage to

The larger trash cans should also smooth boarding because passengers who board later would not have to go back several rows to find a place for the bag, a situation that creates what he called a "mosh pit."

"With the one-to-one (bag) relationship , all things go away because everyone wants room for their bag, & # 39; & # 39; he said.

The airline will begin adding overhead bins to its net years and plans to have it on 80% of the mainline's jet fleet by 2023, most of them serving flights in the United States. Many of the broadband aircraft serving international routes already have larger air boxes. However, aircraft that will be retired over the next five years will be equipped with the new garbage cans.

Enqvist said that United passengers will not lose space elsewhere because of the larger bins because they slide down and out. The only possible impact can be on tall passengers when you get up.
