Union protesters arrested at Tennessee GM plant

The strike against General Motors is now in its fourth day.
Tensions are increasing as an official United Work Workers states that seven to nine unions were arrested for blocking a roadway at a GM plant in Tennessee.
The arrests came Wednesday at the Spring Hill facility, according to local UAW chairman Mike Herron.

The authorities repeatedly asked protesters to get out of the way. Herron said he thinks the protesters were afraid trucks could enter the facility.
Herron said at a news conference that the police and the sheriff's department have done a fantastic job and have supported during the ongoing strike.
He said arrests take the union off the message.
Meanwhile, the strike of 49,000 United Auto Workers begins to affect production in other countries.

Company spokesman Dan Flores confirms that the strike has forced GM to temporarily lay off about 1,200 workers at a Canadian pickup plant.
The facility in Oshawa, Ontario, near Toronto, makes th e previous generation Chevrolet Silverado and full size GMC Sierra pickups.
Silverado is GM's best-selling vehicle in the United States
The plant also makes the Chevrolet Impala large car, and that production has not been affected. [19659002] Flores states that production continues at two other Canadian factories that make engines and the Chevrolet Equinox SUV.
