New Jersey Uber drivers with high grades and low cancellations can earn a variety of benefits, including free online college courses and gas discounts as part of a program announced Thursday.
During the Uber Pro Pilot, drivers will collect points into partner, gold, platinum and diamond categories. Each category can unlock various benefits for drivers, who act as independent contractors and are not employees of the company.
"To unlock the amount, the driver must maintain at least a 4.8 star rating and low cancellation," according to the company's announcement. "Drivers earn points on each trip for a fixed 3 month period, and the points they earn for a period go against unlock status (and more benefits) in the next."

"We are proud to cooperate with ASU to connect drivers and their families with high-quality education opportunities that help them with to move on, on life and on the road, says Ubers CEO Dara Khosrowshahi.
Leaders with top marks will also get a 3 or 6 percent pay rise, according to a distribution card of the technical news site The Verge. Other benefits include priority pickups on airports and discounts on gas.
For now, the program is available across the country in New Jersey, along with Phoenix, Denver, Chicago, Seattle, New Orleans, Orlando and Tampa.
Uber has met criticism of illiteracy offers lean pay. The company, which allegedly plans to be public next year, has also struggled to keep drivers.
More than 60 percent of drivers are inactive at the ride section six months after signing up, CNN Business reported, referring to July's research from Uber and Stanford University.
"Drivers have also told us that they take enormous pride in the work they do and the service they provide because they know that in many ways their riders [?] and families [?] depend on them," said Uber in an announcement . "But we have also heard that they wish to be recognized for their commitment to quality service [?] and to Uber [?] by helping them build their way toward the future."
More details about the program, requirements and benefits is available on the Uber Pro website.
