Twitter’s best memes about Elon Musk’s Blue Check Apocalypse

Since the beginning of Elon Musk’s reigns supreme on Twitter, he has threatened to remove the old verification – signed with a white tick in a blue circle next to the account name –which preceded his period. Musk even set April 1 as the date for the purge, which came and went without any changes, either due to ineptitude or a half-baked April Fool’s joke. But April 20-4/20, lol, ugh—he actually did.

Almost all of the estimated 407,000 older verified Twitter accounts lost the badge. The only exceptions were recently unveiled Twitter Blue subscribers — and a few confused celebrities including Stephen King and Lebron James. Musk later said he personally pays for their subscriptions, which neither star seems to want.

As with all of Musk’s controversial changes to the internet’s favorite/least favorite social media, Twitter responded with a delightful array of memes. Fraudsters also seem to take the opportunity to impersonate prominent figures and organizations that lost their chins.
