Turbulence damage 37 on Air Canada flights to Sydney

At least 37 people have been injured aboard an Air Canada aircraft that hit severe turbulence and had to travel to emergency landing .
The plane – with 284 passengers and crew ̵[ads1]1; traveled from Vancouver to Sydney, but was diverted to Hawaii.
Thirty people were taken to hospital in Honolulu on Thursday. You had serious injuries, officials say.
Air Canada said Boeing 777-200 jet "suddenly discovered clear air turbulence … two hours past Hawaii".
It was added that it was arranging hotels in Honolulu until a new flight to Australia could be arranged.
The plane landed in Hawaii at 06:46 local time (16:46 GMT) on Thursday.
"We hit turbulence and we all hit the ceiling, and everything fell … people went flying," Jess Smith, a passenger on board the plane, told local television station KHON.

"Someone who wasn't attached, you saw them rise up in the air and hit the roof and everything, so it was pretty intense," another passenger told the station
Alex Macdonald, from Brisbane, told the Canadian broadcaster CBC News that the passengers on board were "extremely shocked".
"I saw the people in front of me and hit the overhead luggage compartments and then just slammed back in their seat," she added.

Photographs taken in the aircraft show that oxygen masks were released and the service cars thrown over during the incident.
What is Clear Air Turbulence?
CAT – clear air turbulence – occurs in otherwise calm, clear blue skies, without any visual indication such as the clouds.
It occurs when the masses of air move at different speeds meet, and cannot be identified by mere eyes or conventional radar.
Pilots use reports from other aircraft, continued via air traffic control, to keep track of patches of CAT.
Passengers have reported that the cabin becomes the blood and dented from passengers hitting the roof of the plane.
A social media post from a passenger showed that he was wearing a neck bump at the airport, along with the caption: "Unexpected vacation in Hawaii"
An Australian country band, Hurricane Fall, was also on the plane then.
They confirmed in a Facebook post, had the vocalist his injuries to his arm and elbow, but had been released from hospital.
