Thousands of New England Papa Gino's places were abruptly closed
Massachusetts-based pizza franchise Papa Gino has suddenly closed dozens of shops across New England on Sunday.
Dozens of tweets reported Papa Gino's places across the region closed Sunday.
Reports from workers turned off by the company indicated as many as 49 stores were shuttered by the company.
The company, which has previously boasted about 150 stores throughout New England, showed only 97 sites on its website on Sunday.
A sign posted on the company's Needham Street site, said: "This location is now closed. Thank you for patronage."
"I showed up for my change tomorrow to find the same sign on our door," said Kesley Sullivan, who worked at the Mansfield site. "I was told to come again in other places."
The WCVB traveled to the company for comment, but did not immediately hear from them.
A complete list of retail outlets was not immediately available. The company recommends customers to check their site to see open locations.
The company, now located in Dedham, was founded in 1961 when the chain opened its first pizzeria, called Piece O & # 39; Pizza, in East Boston.
In 1968, the company changed its name to Papa Gino and began to expand throughout Boston.
Papa Gino's Inc. is the parent company of Papa Gino and D & # 39; Angelo Grilled Sandwiches.
