NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Thousands of people in Queens, Brooklyn and on Long Island were without power as the recent heat wave to hit the Tri-State Area entered its third day
According to Con Edison's outage map, there were about 4,000 customers without power in Queens were without service as of 6:30 pm Sunday, and the company estimated their power would not be back until 11 am. Monday. Nearly 4,900 customers in Brooklyn and 1,360 in the Bronx were also without power, and with the same restoration time.
On Friday, Con Ed said it was confident in its system and was poised to respond to any outage.
Over 9,000 PSEG Long Island customers lost power Saturday afternoon in Far Rockaway, Queens and on Long Island. The majority of those customers had their service restored by 11 p.m.
About 500 cooling centers are open throughout the area for those in need.
