The threat at the Claycomo Ford plant is not credible
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office said early Wednesday morning that a threat from the Ford Kansas City Assembly plant in Claycomo, Missouri, was not credible. The search inside the facility lasted several hours and ended at around 02:00. The situation began around 5.20pm on Tuesday when a call came in to Ford’s safety and risk management team. A man on the line claimed to be armed with explosives, a rifle and a pistol. He told them he was locked in the bathroom on the second floor of the paint area of the facility. Employees inside the facility were evacuated, according to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office. There were no reports of gunshots or injuries. Sarah Boyd, a spokeswoman for the sheriff̵[ads1]7;s office, said authorities were treating it as a “real threat.” “We are going to treat this as a real and active threat,” she said. The sheriff’s office made the decision to evacuate the facility. “We have no confirmation that anyone is in there, but we will treat it as it is,” she said. “Our next step is to enter this building.” Several agencies joined the search at the Ford plant in Claycomo. The search continued at the massive facility as the clock struck midnight on Wednesday morning. Local agencies were joined by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office and Claycomo Police Department, along with the FBI. About a dozen officers were initially on the scene, and additional units were called in. Around 10:15 p.m., the Clay County Sheriff’s Office said they had found no one during their initial search of the area the suspect said they were in. Employees were told to evacuate the area. Most employees told KMBC’s Peyton Headlee that they had just started their shift. Some employees said there wasn’t a clear message about what was going on. They heard a rumor and employees began to leave the facility. Other employees said they were told there was an active shooter and they had to leave the facility. Employees said it was a scary situation and many details are messages. They have not yet received any specific notification about when they can enter the facility again. The UAW released a brief statement on the matter. “The UAW is closely monitoring a possible active shooter situation at the Ford Kansas City Assembly Plant,” the union said. “We stand with our UAW family at KCAP and will continue to fight for a safe workplace for all.” . The caller named the supervisor, but the authorities have not made contact with the person. The possibility that the situation is a soothsayer has not been ruled out by the sheriff’s office. “Our special tactics and response team is entering the facility to determine the source of the threat,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement Tuesday evening. “It is possible this is a noisy call, but we will treat the threat as real until we can prove otherwise.
