The stock market moves higher when the S&P 500, Nasdaq rises
The S&P 500 rose on Friday, on its way to extending a recent rise and taking a seven-week losing streak.
The broad market reference was up 1.9% from Friday afternoon. The Dow Jones Industrial Average added 367 points, or about 1%, and the Nasdaq Composite climbed 2.7%, with gains accelerating mid-day. The robust rally builds on days of upswing and marks a sharp reversal from a series of weekly losses that caused the S&P 500 to tip over on the edge of bear market territory.
