The Popeyes Fried Chicken Sandwich Is Back. This is what you will find

<div _ngcontent-c17 = "" innerhtml = "

The Popeyes fried chicken sandwich that kicked off this summer's Great Fried Chicken Sandwich Wars came back on Sunday.

And judging by my experience getting one, the buzz around the sandwich is back as well.

Popeyes announced the sandwich's return previous week, in time for National Sandwich Day.

On Friday I was at my local Popeyes near Ann Arbor, Mich., just to see if it had arrived early.

The signs were up, but it was no sign of the sandwich.

"Sunday at. 10 sharp, "the contractor told, via the drive through the intercom." You should get here early. "

I had not planned to be there on opening hours, but I woke up in time, thanks to the end of summer time. So I gathered my 91 year old aunt, Maxine Clapper, entered my Prius and set off.

The scene We arrived at 09:50 to find a knot of people waiting outside the door, and 14 cars in the drive and We drove car # 11 in the drive through.

But at 10am we were told there was a delay. The restaurant opened at 11am, despite the instructions we were given and the hours posted on the door.

The delay was not explained, but the restaurant then posted "cash only" sign that made me think it might have been a credit card processing problem.

Wait time We thought about leaving, but decided to leave around us also lived others, inc A manager came out and gave these numbers so they could wait in their cars in the 37F cold.

When 10 o'clock ticked off, more people arrived. The drive-through line reshaped, and eventually it stretched along the side of the restaurant, through the parking lot, past the front of the restaurant and into the road outside.

I talked to a couple of customers and was told that they had failed to get the Popeyes sandwich during the first performance ( I nabbed one just before it was sold out) .

They were determined to get one this time. And after the restaurant doors finally opened at 11am, the first customers showed up and held the Popeyes bags high in victory.

It took us about 25 minutes to get to the window by car and collect our sandwiches. We pulled into a parking lot and opened the bag.

Sandwich. This iteration of Popeye's fried chicken sandwich seems identical to the previous version. For $ 3.99 you get a generous portion of fried chicken breast, a mayo dollop, two jam cucumbers and a soft bowl.

If anything, the chicken was even more humid than last time, perhaps because it was cooked in the morning rather than in the afternoon.

And the pickles seemed thicker, almost a little too thick for a sandwich. We both took them off the sandwiches and ate them as a side dish.

Since I tried it before, I was curious about what Maxine thought about it.

She stated it as "good", her compliment for something she likes to eat, and said she would have one again if I brought it home with her. (She's not from the one-in-one generation, which is understandable.)

She couldn't finish her sandwich, which seems a little big for older appetites. Popeyes would do well if it made a chicken sandwich slider.

Buzz. Of course, a major advantage of this Popeyes launch is that it took place on Sunday, when the main rival Chick-fil-A closed, and something Popeyes touted in his rise to chicken sandwich return.

Availability on Sunday is likely to lead to a major launch day.

As we drove off, I counted 25 cars waiting for the drive and the parking lot was almost full. I asked the counter office how many she thought they would earn, and she estimated it would be more than 100.

Based on early demand, they probably sold them all by the end of the lunch hour.

The business may not keep up with that speed, and Popeyes may not get the massive marketing increase that the chicken sandwich generated last time.

But at least for now it has managed to shoot its second shot.
