The Ministry of Justice opens probe for emission certification
Ford says the Justice Department has opened a criminal investigation into its US certification process.
The automaker said in a regulatory filing "the issue is currently focusing on issues related to load load calculation, including analysis modeling and surveys."
In September, a group of employees reported possible issues with a mathematical model used to calculate pollution and mileage, and got Ford to hire an external company to run the test. And in February, Ford launched a survey of whether the overloaded gas mileage and undervalued emissions from a wide range of vehicles.
Ford Motor Co. sent the case to the Environmental Protection Agency and the California Air Resources Board voluntarily in February. It has also joined a number of other state and federal agencies.
Friday said Friday that it is fully cooperating with all authorities.
