The longtime Springfield restaurant and bakery closes for business

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – A popular Springfield restaurant closed its doors for a good Sunday afternoon.

Perkins Restaurant & Bakery on W. Sunshine is now permanently closed. Archie Donoho, the restaurant's general manager, said the store opened in Springfield in 1994, and is now closing over a rental dispute. Donoho said the last owner, Huddle House, would have a lower rental payment, but the landlord would not bow.

Employees say they were told they lost their job on Friday. Trish Wilkins, who has worked in Perkins for 13 years, said this restaurant is like home, and the people there are like family.

"I've been interested in people's births, deaths, weddings. It's like a live Facebook here almost. It's real life. I don't know, we have a good group of people here. It's going to be very difficult not to come here anymore, "Wilkins said.

Donoho said he plans to buy another restaurant in Springfield and hire the entire Perkins staff there.
