A dog traveling in the cargo area of an Air France KLM flight from Amsterdam to Los Angeles was found dead on arrival Tuesday afternoon.
"The dog's owner has been notified and we are expressing condolences," said a statement by Air France-KLM sent to HuffPost.
The aircraft was a KLM Boeing 747-400, which arrived at Los Angeles International Airport at 13.00 local time. The airline's statement said that an emergency would determine the cause of death and that the dog had been properly loaded according to KLM's pet policy.
TMZ, who was the first to report the incident, cited an anonymous airline employee "familiar with the incident" who said the dog had been improperly loaded into the cargo hold and experienced an oxygen loss under the aircraft.
