The coal mine in Kentucky stops production Friday

HENDERSON, Ky. (AP) – A mine from Kentucky that employs about 200 people is slated to stop producing coal in a week.

Alliance Resource Partners LP announced Friday that the Dotiki mine in Webster County will stop production from August 16.

The Oklahoma-based company said it is focusing on maximizing production at the Illinois Basin mines at a lower cost.

Company President and CEO Joseph W. Craft III said weak market conditions made the action necessary. The mine opened in 1969 and is the oldest operated by the company.

According to local outlets, Webster County Judge Steve Henry said in a statement that he is grateful that employees have the opportunity to continue working.

Henry said that the county has already made budget changes for the past two years, pending production at Dotiki to stop.
