A New York City woman sued TGI Friday's Inc. on Wednesday, claiming that the company was engaged in misleading advertising practices by selling potato melts that do not contain any potato skin.

The proposed class act filed by Solange Troncoso claims that bagged snacks appeal to some consumers because of the perceived health benefits of the potato skin. Lawsuit also claims that these rails are discarded during the production process of the snacks.

Instead of potato skins, the products contain "potato flakes" and "potato starch", claiming the case, and citing the product's ingredient list.

The case claims that "potato chicks" branding attempts to capitalize on health-conscious consumers. "This note lurks consumers to believe that they are getting a healthier snack, but the defendant's products do not live up to these claims," ​​the lawsuit says.

Troncoso filed the lawsuit after purchasing a $ 1.99 bag of TGI Fridays Sour Cream & Onion Potato Skins chips from a Bronx convenience store in June 2018, say the case.

A United States TODAY request for comment from TGI Fridays was not immediately returned Friday night.
