Tesla releases new longer range Model S and Model X with drive train, suspension upgrades, and more
Tesla today announced that it is producing new versions of Model S and Model X with new drives, upgraded suspension and more.
New Tesla Drivetrain
Over the past few weeks, we have reported on a series of upgrades that Tesla plans to bring to model S and model X series – starting with new drives.
As expected, Tesla takes its new, permanent-magnetic synchronous counter-motor, developed for model 3, for model S and model X.
When we first reported on the upgrades, we knew that the new engines were more efficient, but we could Don't say how it would be translated into longer range accurately.
Tesla now says it results in "An improvement of more than 1[ads1]0% in the area":
"The net effect is an improvement of more than 10% in range, with efficiency improvements in both directions as energy flows out of the battery during Accelerating and recharging the battery through regenerative braking. In addition to its range, power and torque increase significantly across all models S and Model X variants, and improve 0-60 mph times for our Long Range and Standard Range models. "
Long Range versions of Model S and Model X can now travel 370 miles and 325 miles, respectively, based on the EPA cycle.
According to a blog post about the changes, the Long Range versions still use the same 100 kWh battery pack.
Tesla also takes a "Standard Range & # 39; option for both vehicles – an option that has been on and off the configurator over the past year.
For Model S, it starts at $ 78,000, and it offers a range of 285 miles on a single charge and for model X, it starts at $ 83,000 and the range is 250 miles.
According to Tesla's latest marketing strategy, the automaker does not reveal the energy capacity of the "Standard Range" battery, but recently been between 75 and 85 kWh.
New model S and model XC Harge Rate
Together with the new drive, Tesla tells that it was able to slow down model S and model X charge rate:
"The pair with the new one, more efficient fuel design, the Model S and Model X are now able to achieve 200 kW on V3 Superchargers and 145 kW on V2 Superchargers. Together, these improvements allow our customers to charge their miles 50% faster. "
When Tesla launched Supercharger V3 in February, the company announced a 250 kW model 3 charging speed at the new stations.
At that time, the automaker noticed that a higher charge rate would also be enabled for model S and model X, but it did not give any more details to date.
Tesla's new, fully adaptive suspension
The car manufacturer also brings with it a new upgraded suspension for model S and model X:
"We also upgraded our air suspension system for Model S and Model X with full adaptive cushioning, giving it an extremely padded feel when driving on the highway or using autopilot, and a responsive, exciting self-confidence during dynamic driving. "
Along with the hardware upgrade, Tesla says it will also benefit from its over-the-air software to improve the suspension over time.
And more … [19659003] Along with the major hardware changes, Tesla also made some minor improvements:
"To complement these changes, we have also rebuilt several other Model S and Model X components in line with our continuous improvement philosophy. These updates include new wheel bearings and some new tire designs for certain variants to improve range, driving and steering. "

Furthermore, Tesla offers existing existing Ludicrous Mode upgrade (worth $ 20,000) to an existing model S and model X owners willing to upgrade to a new model S or model X with all the new changes.
Electrek's Take
If you've followed Electrek closely over the past month, you already knew it came, but now we know exactly the impact of the new drive on model S and model X, and that's quite impressive.
It's not like the Model S and Model X needed a range, but it's always welcome.
What's more interesting is the efficiency increase and it's quite important with the updated powertrain.
Charge rate also increases significantly, but it is not to the level of model 3, which is expected to come up with another upcoming powertrain upgrade in the coming months.
th ose changes are good, but model 3 is still better value in my book.
It can help Tea The model S and Model X sales, which crashed last year, are slashed, but I think the new battery and the decor of the decor goes to gain greater influence.

Tesla described the changes in a blog post:
The longest reach vehicle now goes even further
April 23, 2019
For more than a decade, Tesla engineers have been obsessed with doing The world's most efficient electric cars. As a result, Tesla vehicles are already running on a single charge than any other production EV on the market. Today we make changes to model S and model X which allow them to travel unprecedentedly without having to recharge and beat our own record for the longest reach products on the road. And we have achieved this without increasing the car's battery size, showing that our system-level design expertise can make our cars dramatically more efficient.
Starting today, the Model S and Model X come with a brand new drivetrain design that significantly increases each vehicle's range and achieves a 370-mile landmark and 325 miles on the EPA cycle for Model S and Model X Long, respectively. Range. Using the same 100 kWh battery pack, these design and architecture updates will allow drivers to travel longer than ever before, charge less often, and get more reach out of every dollar spent on charging.
We also introduce a brand new adaptive suspension system for the Model S and Model X, along with some other improvements for best selection, acceleration and ride comfort ever, as well as a Ludicrous Mode upgrade for our most loyal customers. Here's what's new:
More efficient design
All model S and X vehicles now benefit from Tesla's latest generation of drive technology, combining an optimized synchronous reluctance to permanent magnet, silicon carbide power electronics, and improved lubrication, cooling, storage and gear designs to achieve more than 93% efficiency. Pairing a permanent magnet front engine with a rear induction motor always allows for unrivaled range and performance. The net effect is an improvement of more than 10% in range, with efficiency improvements in both directions as energy flows out of the battery during acceleration and back into the battery through regenerative braking. In addition to adding range, the power and torque increase significantly across all model S and Model X variants, and enhance 0-60 mph times for our Long Range and Standard Range models.Faster Charging
The pair with the new, more efficient fuel design, Model S and Model X, is now capable of achieving 200 kW on V3 Superchargers and 145 kW on V2 Superchargers. Together, these improvements allow our customers to charge their miles 50% faster.Fully adaptive suspension
We have also upgraded our model S and Model X air suspension system with full-adaptive cushioning, giving it an extremely padded feel when driving on the highway or using Autopilot, and a responsive, thrilling confidence during dynamic driving. Unlike other manufacturers, our suspension software has been developed completely internally, using a predictive model to predict how the attenuation must be adjusted based on road, speed, and other vehicle and driver inputs and outputs. The system continuously adapts by recording the road and adjusting for driver behavior, automatically softening for more proven road connections and tightening for aggressive driving. We have also improved the leveling of the system while driving and keeping the car low to optimize aerodynamic drag. As with all Tesla's internal software, the adaptive suspension can receive updates over the air, so that all models S and Model X customers can have the most advanced suspension technology at all times.Constant refinement
To complement these changes, we have also rebuilt several other components of the Model S and Model X in line with our continuous improvement philosophy. These updates include new wheel bearings and a few new tire designs for certain variants to improve range, ride and steering. While these changes may seem small, they have a meaningful impact on EV design. In addition to our Long Range and Performance variants, we also introduce a lower entry price for Model S and Model X by regaining our standard selection option, now available for an even greater value with the new fuel and suspension updates. We also want to emphasize the critical impact each of our early Tesla owners has had on promoting our mission, such as a thank you, all existing model S and model X owners looking to buy a new model S or model X performance car get the Ludicrous Mode upgrade, a value of $ 20,000 at no additional cost.
These changes will go into production at our factory in Fremont, California this week, and can be ordered today at Tesla.com.
