Tesla Model S and Model X to get interior, engine upgrades
Tesla Inc. is considering considering a more comprehensive upgrade to its older model S and X electric vehicles (EV), whose sales have suffered significantly since the market debut of the newer model S luxury executive since 2017. [19659002] Model S, An all-electric five-door lift tray, introduced in 2012, while the Model X, a mid-size all-electric luxury crossover utility vehicle, was introduced in 2015. Model 3 lorded over Tesla EV sales in the first quarter of this year with the sale of 24 003 cars. In contrast, 3,200 model S was sold and 3000 model X.
The three Tesla models accounted for 75 percent of the US EV market in the first quarter.
Tesla seems to plan a complete fuel update for model S and X along with a renewal of both model's interior design. Tesla is now said to work to develop newer model S and X EV with the same battery construction based on 21[ads1]70 battery cells driving model 3, Electrek said.
The equipment for models S and X with the 2170 battery architecture will enable these EVs to achieve the same maximum charging speed as model 3. Achieving this will also allow models S and X to use the new Supercharger V3, which is currently Exclusive to model 3.
Analysts have said the launch of Supercharger V3 made the model S and X much less appealing to buyers, who could not use this system.
They said it is still unclear what kind of battery pack can equip the new production model S and X, but this is expected to be higher than the current 100 kWh top capacity. Model 3 has a charging power of 250 kWh.
The new software contains code that handles CCS (combined charging station) for model S and X. This cability is available for model 3s sold in Europe.
This hardware upgrade can be released as early as June.
