You may not want to rely on your function yet. Some early users have warned that Autopilot does not always recognize cones, which can potentially lead to dangerous path changes – say, direct you to oncoming traffic or construction. Tesla did not remind drivers that they "need to be aware all the time," so it knows this is no substitute for keeping their eyes open.
This is still an important step for Tesla. It still intends to enable full self-driving in the future, and it will require cars that can recognize and cope with virtually any road object. A seemingly small update like this could go a long way toward real hands-free driving.
