Tesla announces that it has a Model S with a & # 39; Plaid driveline & # 39; and a new & # 39; chassis prototype & # 39; which they used to break the record on the Laguna Seca racetrack.
Earlier today, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said they broke the fastest catch record for 4-door vehicles with a Model S on the Laguna Seca racing track, and they will release a video about it soon.
The carmaker has now released the video, but we are told that the vehicle has been modified.
Tesla said the Model S had a & # 39; checkered driveline & # 39; which suggests a new driveline above & # 39; Ludicrous & # 39; driveline, and a new & # 39; chassis prototype & # 39 ;.
With this new version of the Model S, Tesla completed a lap time of 1

That's a big improvement over the previous best time in a Tesla Model S P100D.
Last year, Tesla's development team finished taking the Laguna Seca production EV record with a time of 1:43.
Tesla has not yet released any other details about the new powertrain or chassis or any plan to make the new version of Model S available to customers.
Update : Musk said they will soon release more information about the & # 39; Plaid driveline & # 39; and said it will be offered for the Model S, Model X and the new Roadster:
“Yes. To be clear, the checkered driveline is about a year away from production and applies to the S, X & Roadster, but not 3 or Y. Will cost more than our current offerings, but less than competitors. "
Earlier, Musk said that Tesla reserved" Plaid mode ", which is a reference to Spaceballs as Tesla's second performance mode, for the next-generation Roadster.
It's an interesting way to announce a new powertrain, or at least a new powertrain mode, especially after Elon said there would be no other major upgrade to the Model S this year.
Since Elon previously said that & # 39; Bledd & # 39; was for the Roadster, Tesla could test the new Roadster driveline in the Model S, but I think this is unlikely.
Either way, it's an impressive time.
Although I think Tesla may have stripped the interior a bit because it sounds really loud inside the car in this video, and that's what happens when you strip the interior of a car.
It is possible that this new 'Plaid Drift Line' is only higher.
