Teenager at McDonald’s jumps through the car window to save the customer’s suffocation from a lump of chicken
Sydney has been working at McDonald’s for about seven months and told CNN that this was just another routine weekend shift. “The day had been mostly normal – making coffee, making drinks. When I went into the lunch rush, it was completely normal.” she said.
“She was coughing like crazy and I noticed she was gagging.”[ads1]; Sydney told CNN. “Her daughter was sitting in the passenger seat and she looked so pissed. I knew immediately ‘Oh, no, she suffocated.’
Sydney instructed both the manager and the woman’s daughter to call 911 as she quickly jumped through the window to help the woman.
The maneuver did not work the first few times Sydney tried, so she called a spectator to help.
“We worked together and managed to remove the food from her throat.” in Sydney.
Finally, the nugget of gold was set free, and the woman could breathe again. Afterwards, the woman was in shock, but very grateful to Sydney.
Two officers from the Edina police department then arrived at the scene to check on the woman, and had a reward for the teenager.
“They said, ‘Congratulations, you’re a lifeguard, you’re a hero.” Sydney sa. They gave her $ 100 from a fund they use for people who do good work in the community.
This was the first time she ever had to perform the maneuver, but knew the seriousness of it and always be prepared.
Around the corner were her parents, Tom and Stephanie, who were on their way to pick her up.
“There was an ambulance and a police car sitting there, and I looked at my wife and said, ‘Please tell me there’s nothing for Sydney,'” Tom told CNN. that we should pick her up and say “So this happened today.”
Autism is a spectrum of conditions characterized by challenges with communication and social skills. “We’re always been worried it was going to be a challenge for her, and it’s done a whole 180,” Tom told CNN. “It has actually been a blessing and a gift at this time. All the things we worried about never happened.”
And her employer realizes how important her actions were as well.
“We are incredibly proud of Sydney and her swift, heroic actions over the weekend to help one of our valued customers.” says owner-operator Paul Ostergaard to CNN in a written statement.
“Sydney really personifies what it is to be a hero, and we are incredibly fortunate to have her as a highly valued crew member at our Eden Prairie restaurant. We are delighted to see all the well-deserved recognition she has received from the community and will continue to celebrate her courageous efforts to literally jump out of the drive-thru window to help a customer in need. ”
