Taco Bell’s latest food uses an oversized Cheez-It

The experiment: A massive Cheez-It, which is 16 times the standard size, serves as the base for Taco Bell’s new “Big Cheez-It Tostada”. The meal adds minced meat, sour cream, tomatoes, lettuce and cheddar cheese to the cheesy biscuit for $ 2.49. It is described as a “richly cheesy and nostalgic, yet magically modern, dining experience,” according to one release.

Both items are available for the next two weeks at one restaurant.

The second item Taco Bell tests is a “Big Cheez-It Crunchwrap Supreme”, which replaces the internal tostada shell, with the giant Cheez-It for $ 4.29. It is packed with the usual ingredients, including minced meat, nacho cheese sauce, lettuce, tomatoes and sour cream.

Both are available in only one restaurant, located in Irvine, California, for the next two weeks.
Like many fast food chains, Taco Bell regularly tests menu items before potentially expanding availability elsewhere. The company, based in Southern California, used its hometown for a plant-based protein made from peas and chickpeas last year.
Working with a well-known snack can also help increase sales. Its Dorito taco shells quickly became a fast food icon shortly after its debut in 2012, selling over 500 million of them within about a year of launch.
The brand is a strong performer for the parent company, Nam! Brands (NAM). It reported sales growth in the same store of 5%, which beat expectations, in its latest earnings report.
