Strike at Lufthansa's subsidiaries leads to cancellations News | DW

Collective actions by a German cabin crew union disrupted the flights to Eurowings, Germanwings, Lufthansa CityLine and SunExpress on Sunday. The strike was originally set to last between 5 and 11am, but is now expected to last until midnight German time (10pm UTC), when cabin crew UFO Union decided to extend it at short notice.

Walkout affects flights operated by subsidiaries of Germany's flagship Lufthansa, but not Lufthansa itself.

Airports all over Germany have reported cancellations. While UFO representatives described the walkout as "very successful" and said that more than 100 flights had been canceled, Lufthansa's subsidiaries said that only individual flights had been canceled or delayed by the strike.

A strike by UFO union members has caused extensive delays and cancellations at airports in western Germany

At least 15 flights from German carrier Eurowings were canceled at Berlin's airports , according to a spokeswoman.

Munich Airport reported 10 cancellations on Sunday morning.

"The airlines involved are lining up with all unorganized personnel [in the union]; we have to wait and see what the day brings," a spokesman for Munich Airport warned.

A spokesman for Düsseldorf Airport, where four connections had been canceled, also predicted several cancellations throughout the day. The airport reports that 60 flights are at risk.

Ongoing dispute [19659002] Lufthansa has called the strike illegal. The company also maintains that the union's new leaders, who took office earlier this year, were not properly elected and thus not in a position to legally represent employees.

The UFO organized a walkout over workers' wages, company pensions and part-time labor regulations. It is looking for a 2% pay rise for cabin crew, after winning a 2% pay rise for cabin crew at Lufthansa.
