After two shootings inside the stores, Walmart removes violent video game views and store signs, the retailer confirmed Thursday.

Stores were sent a note asking for "immediate action" to remove the signature and displays that "contain violent themes or aggressive behavior." The note circulated on Twitter and Reddit, and Walmart officials confirmed their authenticity to the United States TODAY.

"We have taken this act of respect for events over the past week, and this action does not reflect a long-term change in our video game selection," Tara House, a Walmart spokeswoman, said in a statement.

On Saturday, 22 people were killed in a Walmart store in El Paso, Texas, days after two Walmart executives were killed by a gunman described as a dissatisfied worker in a Southaven, Mississippi store.

Thursday in Springfield, Missouri, police arrested a 20-year-old man in body armor and military-style clothing after entering a Walmart with a "tactical rifle" and another gun. Police say he pushed a shopping cart and used his phone to register people who fled the store.

Walmart officials said this week that the dealership should not stop selling guns, although some advocates gun control asks to do so.

According to the note, Walmart stores were told to:
