RANDOLPH, Mass. (AP) – A union representing thousands of Stop & Shop workers in Massachusetts has voted to approve a strike.
UFCW Local 1445's voice Sunday allows the Union to call a strike if the contract dispute with the supermarket chain continues. The trade union asks members to continue working while negotiations continue.
The fight focuses on health insurance, pension and holiday time. The union says Stop & Shop is looking to "degrade the quality of life" of employees.
Stop & Shop says it has offered suggestions that "would ensure that full-time employees continue to be among the highest paid food retailers in the region."
Five United locals in United Food & Commercial Workers have negotiated with Stop & Shop for more than a month. Local 1
