Stock futures falter on the last day of the tumultuous month

US stock futures were mixed on Monday, with large indices ready to close January with heavy losses, after a month of volatile trading due to expected interest rate hikes.

Futures for the S&P 500 fell 0.2 percent. The stock index rose on Friday to end one of the most tumultuous weeks on a high note. Contracts for the Nasdaq-100 rose 0.4% on Monday and futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.5%.
