Coffee makers took on Twitter on Friday to complain that they had trouble securing the evasive new cup at their local stores and had time to go to a number of different places before they found one.
"We see an enthusiastic response to the return of Starbucks and Starbucks cups, in addition to today's limited edition of our reusable Red Holiday Cup, which is available while supplies goods, says Starbucks to CNBC. "Every store has a limited offer and we are aware that some stores are already out."
On Friday, the company launched its holiday drinks and cups with a special reusable red cup. Just one day, Starbucks gave away this cup to customers who booked a holiday drink. The cup would be made available for $ 2 on any day afterwa according to CEO Kevin Johnson.
During the holiday season, customers who use the cup will receive 50 cents of their beverage order if they order after 10:00. The goal is to get people used to using reusable cups, "said COO Roz Brewer to CNBC.
A barista told CNBC over the phone that their shop ran out of the cups at noon. Another said the cups were sold around 3 pm and would not be available until several were sent to the store in a few days.
Earlier this Friday, Starbucks Rewards were unable to place their orders as the app failed to recognize shops and would not take orders.
