Some Jif peanut butter products are recalled for possible salmonella contamination

WASHINGTON – Consumers should double check the jars of Jif peanut butter in the middle of a recall, says the Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Jifs creamy, crunchy, natural and low-fat peanut butter has been linked to a salmonella outbreak in 12 states that has made 14 sick, with two people in hospital. Side effects from salmonella poisoning include fever, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting.
JM Smucker Co. announced a voluntary recall Friday of some Jif peanut butter products for potential salmonella contamination. Jars with batch codes 1274425 to 21[ads1]40425 have been recalled and should be discarded, the company said.
Jif is sold at dealers all over the country. States that report salmonella cases are Arkansas, Georgia, Illinois, Massachusetts, Missouri, Ohio, North Carolina, New York, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia and Washington.
