Shares open higher ahead of Powell’s testimony

US stocks continued ahead of a second day with testimony from the central bank governor Jerome Powell after he warned that rapidly rising interest rates threatened a recession.

The S&P 500 increased by 0.4% in early trading on Thursday. The technology-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index rose 0.4%, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average also rose 0.4%.
