Amazon plans to open dozens of grocery stores across the US, according to a Wall Street Journal report.

Referring to non-named sources, WSJ Amazon says is in negotiations to expand the company's grocery print beyond the Whole Foods Market chain, which they purchased in 2017. The new chain, which will have separate branding from Whole Foods, is planning to open in Los Angeles already in late 2019. The Internet chain is also talking about opening places in San Francisco, Seattle, Chicago, Washington, DC and Philadelphia, according to the journal report.

The magazine's report also claims that Amazon can strengthen their brick-and-mortar store by buying regional food stores.

WSJ sources did not confirm whether Amazon would use its Amazon Go smart technology to run the stores, although it was previously reported that the company intended to test up to 3,000 stores using the technology.

Reported, the new Amazon grocery store will also focus heavily on customer service and have a wider range of options than Whole Foods. In addition, the new food store chain hopes to offer online shopping and delivery; The company has been supplying food since 2007 when they launched Amazon Fresh.
