Question raised about secrecy around Seattle quake study

[ads1]

SEATTLE (AP) – Question is raised about secrecy about a report on how a catastrophic earthquake would affect Seattles water system.

Seattle Public Utilities ordered a 722-page study, which cost $ 900,000. Only a 13-page summary is released.

The organization's water planning director told the Seattle Times sections of the report containing information about vulnerable points in the water system.

In response to the paper's question, a spokesman for the tool said the organization would ask the US Department of Homeland Security if parts of the study could be released.

Jim Mullen, a former state security director, favors the release of the report with more sensitive topics that are blocked.

Results indicate Seattle will lose all water pressure within 24 hours after a catastrophic earthquake and need at least two months to fully recover the service.
