Pride of beef from Florida recalled, tested positive for E. coli

Beef producer Pride of Florida recalled 64,777 pounds of raw beef after a test was tested positive for E. coli O157: H7. By the time the Raiford-based company learned from the test lab about the positive sample, the beef that the sample came from had already been sent to commercial distributors and a cold store in Florida.

This version of E. coli causes bloody diarrhea and abdominal cramps and can also bring HUS (hemolytic uremic syndrome), a form of kidney failure that can be fatal.

Most of the recalled products were distributed by Southeast Protein Purveyors, a company based in Auburndale. For exact case codes and package dates, click here.
