President Trump says GM will sell the Lordstown plant to Workhorse

LORDSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) ̵[ads1]1; President Donald Trump says General Motors sells its Lordstown factory to Workhorse.

He tweeted Wednesday that the company is planning to build electric trucks.

"GM will also spend $ 700 million in Ohio in 3 separate locations, creating another 450 jobs. I've worked fine with GM to get this done," he tweeted.

A spokesman for GM said he did not dispute the president's tweet and said the company is planning to release more information later today.

GM Lordstown idled the facility March 6 when the last Cruze rolled off the assembly line as it switched its focus on trucks and SUVs.

Trump credited Ohio's governor and senator Rob Portman for working with him in the deal to bring a new company to the facility.

Cincinnati-based Workhorse designs and builds high-quality battery-electric cars, including trucks, planes and drones.

Workhorse's SureFly Octocopter – a personal helicopter – was featured at the 2019 Detroit Auto Show.

According to Transport Up, a publication for urban transport, Workhorse is at the forefront of industrial formation technology. In 2015, the company won the Outstanding Advanced Engineering Award by Business Courier.

Sen. Portman tweeted that he has worked with Workhorse and is looking forward to further development.
