Police Examine 1. Dockless Scooter Medal in San Diego
A man who crashed into a tree while riding a dockless scooter, died, marking the first death in the city of San Diego involving scooters found on the corners of the streets throughout the region.
Christopher Conti, 53, from Woodstock, Georgia, was beaten unconscious during the collision along 10th Avenue near B street on Wednesday, March 13, San Diego police said.
The rider drove a snowmobile on a sidewalk and did not wear a helmet when the rider crashed into a tree.
It was 10 µm. at the time of the crash. Investigators say the man failed to negotiate a swing and killed the tree.
The SDPD traffic department was investigated the cause of the collision.
This is not the first death involving the popular dockless scooters in the county.
Esteban Galindo, 26, drove a bird scooter on Third Avenue in Chula Vista on December 22 when he collided with a car. Galindo's death was the first in the county that was connected to the dockless scooters.
There have been other damage crashes, including two people driving tandem on an electric scooter on the 21[ads1]st and Commercial streets of Logan Heights when they collided with a wagon in October 2018.
Since motorized scooters were first introduced in San City Diego in February 2018, San Diego City Government's Public Security and Life Association Committee has proposed regulations.
The rules will implement geofencing to create 8 mph zones, create a consistent equestrian training program, and let the city collect data from each company, including rules.
A study published in January documented 249 emergency visits related to scooters at two university hospitals over a year's period. The researchers from UCLA say that four percent of riders have helmets required by California law.
