Plane collides with another plane while taxiing at Logan Airport
A Delta flight bound for Los Angeles from Boston’s Logan Airport hit the wing of another plane as it departed the gate Friday night. A passenger on board Delta Flight 458 posted photos to social media of the damage to the wing surface of the Delta Boeing 757 aircraft. The image showed the wing of the Boeing 757 hitting the upper tail wing of a CRJ-900 Delta Connection aircraft parked on a nearby street. “It was the weirdest thing, like we were in rush hour and we had a fender bender,” said passenger Samantha Butler. “It was so weird.” The professor, who is based at UCLA in Los Angeles, had attended a science conference in Boston and was on his way home on Friday evening. “We had barely moved out of the gate before this happened,”[ads1]; Butler said. “We taxi out and it’s a crunch,” Butler said. “Just a crunching sound and the plane has backed into another plane on the tarmac.” A Massport spokesperson said the incident involved two Delta aircraft. “Both were at the gates and as one pushed back to depart (at low speed), it hit the other plane’s wing,” the spokesman said. No passengers were injured.”We put up our windows and you can see the plane, the wing tip, has clipped the tail of another plane, a stationary plane on the tarmac,” Butler said. “I am literally speechless as to how this could happen.” “We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience and delays to their travel plans following the minor, low-speed contact between Delta flight 458 and Endeavor flight 5488, which operates as a Delta Connection,” a Delta spokesperson said. “All customers and crew members traveled safely and normally. Customers will be accommodated on new flights to their destinations.”
