Pittsburgh train cars derail; no hazardous materials involved
Five empty Norfolk Southern train cars derailed on the Brunot Island trail in Pittsburgh Saturday morning, temporarily closing West Carson Street while crews cleaned up. All the cars were upright, according to Norfolk Southern senior communications manager Connor Spielmaker. Spielmaker says the cars were empty and no hazardous materials were involved. He also said that no injuries have been reported. Norfolk Southern crews and contractors are on scene to begin clearing the cars, Spielmaker told us. “We appreciate the community̵[ads1]7;s patience” while crews remove the cars from nearby roads, he said. West Carson Street was closed between Corliss Tunnel and McKees Rocks Plaza for cleanup.
