Pepsi for ditch plastic water bottles for the benefit of aluminum

Pepsi forms plastic bottles for some of the products in an effort to reduce plastic waste.

The beverage company, founded in New Bern, North Carolina, announced the environmental plan Friday.

As early as 2020, Pepsis Aquafina water will be sold in aluminum cans at restaurants. The company is still working on details on deployment to the stores.

Plastic waste rises. Experts have said that there will be more plastic in the sea than fish by 2050. "Tackling plastic waste is one of my main priorities, and I take that challenge personally," said PepsiCo director Ramon Laguarta in a statement. "We do our part to solve the problem with the head by reducing, recycling and reinventing our packaging."

Pepsi has not made any plans to get rid of plastic bottles. But that said it has promised to make new plastic bottles with 25% recycled material.
